Frugality is in. It used to be taboo to talk about money. A survey of 2,000 Americans split evenly by generation and gender found that 61% agree that it’s less tacky to be “frugal” today than it was 10 years ago.

Early Birds club: The Earlybirds Club began when two friends in Chicago, Laura Baginski and Susie Lee, wanted to party like they did in their 20s, but as young-at-heart ladies in their 40s, they can’t be out into the wee hours of the morning as they hop from club to club. Doors open at 6 PM and close around 10 PM, ensuring everyone can make it home on time to be in bed by a reasonable hour. With a demographic of Gen X women and non-binary folks with some elder millennials mixed in, the music tends to be nostalgic hits from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

Foods to take off the naughty list: If you’re avoiding foods because of scary labels like “fats,” “cholesterol,” and “carbs” you might be skipping out on some serious nutrition gold, all thanks to outdated food myths. We are talking mixed nuts, eggs, avocado, etc.

Second Date Update: Mandy and Alan go out for coffee. Was it her order that turned him off?

Speaker 1 (00:00):
More variety from the two thousands than nineties. And today
it's Star one on one three, it's Marcus and Corey
right before six o'clock. What's happening? We have such a
weird building? How's that?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Because everyone I see when I get here, they're all
running in here like there's a fire.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Alarm, you know, like everybody's just the late.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Probably and uh. And then you know, you like making
polay conversation because you're seeing someone in the hall and
you're like, hey, how's it going?

Speaker 1 (00:25):
No? Man, know, Well, the problem is our morning. I'm
gonna call every single one of our coworkers out. Half
of us are not mourning people.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
It's just so dumb.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
We're all night owls, and so we struggle to go
to sleep. Right would you put yourself in that category
as a night out?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
I actually got up at two this morning because I
had to go to the bathroom.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
And tell me they went back to bed.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
I did, but I lied there for like a half
an hour, not being able to go back to sleep
because my brain turned on that.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
I hate that.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
But the thing is, it's like I also can't sleep
at five top. So I was like, I'm gonna get.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
A yeah, I did it last night. And I always say, like,
you have to respect the gig, you have to respect yourself,
respect your body, and get to bed at a decent hour.
I did not do that last night. I went out
with a friend last night, and then I got home
and my wife had her friend over there watching the
last episodes of White Lotus and.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Which, by the way, Saturday Night Live did a White
Potus parody and it was brilliant, but you can't watch
it until.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
You finish White Lotus. Okay, well, I don't worry. If
the joke's on you, I'm never gonna watch Saturday Night Live,
so you can watch the skit.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
It's no I mean I showed it to Jeff and
he was like, this is really spot on.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
So they're making hellenoise upstairs because my daughter, you know,
my wife's friend's daughter is my daughter's bestie. So they're
running around. Yeah, and I said, I'm just gonna go
downstairs and sleep in the in law and that happens
to be where our secondary refrigerator is with all the prosecco.
So about ten thirty, my wife comes sneaking in to
grab another bottle of prosecco and it's Monday. I'm still

(02:09):
awake because I'm playing video games. Oh what are you doing?
Exactly what she said and exactly the face that she made.
She goes, you need to go to bed.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
But you know what, Why is the prosecco downstairs?

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Because that's the that's the extra refrigerator where we keep
all the bubbly Yeah, but if you're trying to sleep,
that's a bad place to keep it. That's one night
I'm sleeping in that place. Okay, there's typically nobody down there,
typically the man cave. Not allowed to call that a
man cave. All inclusive, play base, right. So she looked
at me, she goes, you need to go to bed. Yeah,
but the difference is I'm here, I got here early,

(02:42):
and I don't complain about it.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
That's the thing. Don't complain about it.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
No, you can do whatever you want at nighttime, but
you gotta show up, you gotta come correct. That's Corey,
impersonating all of our coworkers. Are all right, we need
to stop. How's everybody doing this morning? Hit us with
a talkback. I want to know how what your mindset
is this morning. This is our early crew. We appreciate
you having us on the talkback is that little red
microphone on the iHeartRadio app. Thank you for checking in.

(03:10):
We have more Kylie Minogue tickets to give away this morning.
We have more of the Bay's ten Kday giveaway. Yes,
and the thousand bucks coming at you at eight ten.
Stay with us. Were variety from the two thousands to nineties,
and today it's Star one on one three, It's Marcus
and Corey at six thirteen. Good morning, My day has
finally arrived. What does that mean? According to this survey,

(03:31):
being frugal is trendy, It is okay, frugality is in nice.
I'm all about it. Apparently, I didn't realize it was
so taboo. But people would rather talk to a coworker
about who they voted for, their medical concerns and how
often they shower? What then how much money they have

(03:52):
in the bank. Well, there's nobody's business. No, you're right,
you're right. But also I don't like any of those
other question either. I wouldn't discuss any of those things.
How often do you shower? Less pressed? I don't know.
I went out last night. I was telling you with
my buddy, and I was I felt really cheap because
he wanted to go to a spot that charges twice

(04:13):
as much for drinks as my local watering hole. Who
is this guy friend of mine? But I mean, like,
is he bougie? No, it's duel income, no kids, okay,
so he doesn't worry as much about money as I do. Okay,
And I was like, let's go here instead. It better
pores and it's cheaper drinks. The one thing I forgot
was it's cash only. So I rolled up to the bar,

(04:34):
I sat down and I said, Hey, remind me, are
you guys cash only? And the guy goes yeah, And
I didn't have any cash on. He's like, we have
an ATM in the back, and I'm so cheap. I
didn't want to pay all the fees. Yeah, forty bucks.
Those generic ATMs are the worst.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
I went to one the other day and it was
like five dollars was the fee for usings.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
And that stuff adds up. I mean, five bucks is
five bucks, but that stuff adds up the other cheap
move that I do. Maybe this is general. This is
cheap or thoughtful. When I'm too tired to cook, I
will get takeout. Don't have a door dash forget that.
The pease I am the I am the uber eats guy.
I'll go get it myself. I will buy food for

(05:14):
the girls and then I will make something at home
for myself. I don't buy myself anything because I just
I don't know. Is it me or does a day
not go buy in the bay where you're not dropping
twenty to fifty bucks on something. It's really hard.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
And I appreciate how much my husband has been planning
our meals during the week because it's saving us money
by him cooking. And yeah, I just appreciate it so much. Now,
who is this study on. Is it like a are
we doing a gen Z or a gen X thing?

Speaker 1 (05:44):
This is all the generations. So they ask people what
financial freedom meant or money happiness. For gen Z, it
meant being able to buy whatever they want at the
grocery store, for example. For millennials it was more about
being able to grow the money they already have investing
for and baby boomers financial progress meant having money left

(06:04):
over after paying bills and then being able to add
to your nut. Okay, and I respect that any good,
any I get a little. I use this thing called Simplify,
which is a personal budgeting software. Every month that I
actually bring in more than I spend. It gives me
a little badge and I feel accomplished, like a boy scout.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
It's just like playing a game and you win a level.
You feel it gives you a little bump.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
You know, you're like, hey, I did it, I did it. Yeah,
I knew what I was doing for thirty days. Amazing. Anyway,
being frugal is in do you guys? Hey, guys, I
got a coupon. Okay, besides cooking at home, what other
frugality do you guys? Exercise? Well, it's like what you said.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
I definitely don't go to any other ATMs unless it's
my bank. I'm very strict with Jeff about door dashing Starbucks.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
He gets a little lazy about that. Well, I leave
the house.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Like sometimes he's working in his meetings and he can't
get to Starbucks, and he.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Gets worth it. I feel like the coffee's bunk after
you get in the car and have to have it delivered.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
No, I mean, I've had it. It's pretty good. But
he's being much much better about that. He's not doing
that anymore. That's good, just I mean, honestly, it's really
with us it's food. We like to eat and try
different restaurants, and we're just not doing that as much.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
I love restaurants, I love going out. It will break
you financially. Mm hmmm. I've been broken at least twice
in my life. Hold Variety from the two thousands, the nineties,
and today it's Star one on one three. It's Marcus
and Corey Tuesday morning, Good morning. Hello. If you don't
have plans for a weekend, well this is a traveling show.
It's not open every weekend. But I just found something

(07:45):
fascinating called the Early Birds Club. Okay, it's a dance
party designed for ladies who have to do in the morning.
Stuff stuff to do in the morning, stuff to do
in the morning. So Early Birds, hence starts at six,
ends at ten. Piece in bed by eleven. That's still
too late for me.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Really, No, I want to go to If I'm a
good girl, I go to bed at eight, but I
normally go to bed at nine.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
I get so bent every time I go to karaoke
and it ends at ten o'clock. I was like, we
can't even hang until midnight.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
No, they got to close it at ten because people
can't hear any more songs from you, they gotta cut
it off.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
So this Early Birds Club, it's like these two high
school friends who got older. This is right off the
website for ladies who feel forgotten by society. Aw because
you're not in your twenties anymore. Clubs don't typically pop
off till midnight. No, I got stuff to do.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
It's very true. There's a place here and I don't
know the name. I apologize, but my friends told me
about it. And it plays eighties music and I'm like,
what probably the cat club? And I'm like, I want
to go to there. Well, what time does it start?

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Probably nine? Well, it's not a Thursday night, so I
can't go. I mean you could, I mean I could.
It's a lot of fun in the morning. It's still
wearing your T shirt and your jean jacket, and then
you'll be like, I can smell red Bull on you.
So the Early Birds Club, so they travel the country,

(09:16):
so they they'll pop up in Chicago and Seattle. And
this sounds like a gigantic commercial. It's not. I'm just fascinated, okay.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
I mean I think it's a great idea, I really do.
Is it coming here?

Speaker 1 (09:26):
August second, Berkeley at a place called Cornerstone. It's like
a brewery, okay, but it is a dance party specifically
designed for ladies, trans and non binary. So it's a
safe space. But it says everybody is welcome. I love that.
I think if the ladies are there, the dudes will
just come to be honest, So but all are welcome, correct.

(09:49):
And I was thinking to myself club nights typically, at
least in my experience, they kind of start at nine
to thirty and then it starts kind of popping about
ten thirty eleven. And I'm thinking to myself, they've always
tried to do clubs for people who are we'll call
it thirty five plus. It's difficult to do that and
sustain it because people outrage don't go and party every weekend.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Unless you're in Vegas. Then it's like you can do
day parties all day, right, But my point is that's
an event. You're not going to the club every weekend.
In your twenties, you're going to the club every weekend.
You can sustain a place.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Yeah, you're thirty five plus doing a pop up in
a different city. That's genius. It's really smart. So Early
Birds Club don't miss out on the Hot Flash cocktail special.
Oh my god, that's right off the website. That's not me.
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Man, If AARP doesn't stop emailing me, I'm gonna be pissed.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
So put your orthotics on. Oh come on, we're going dancing, y'all.
Come on. I'm older than you are.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Yeah, but I'm not putting on my orthotics.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Oh you're not. Do you have orthotics?

Speaker 2 (10:54):
No?

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Do you No? Okay, Early Birds Club, Baby, I'll give
it one more plug. This sounds like a lot of fun.
August second, just google Cornerstone Berkeley Early Birds Club and
we might see you there. Who knows? But not too late.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
To go.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
About?

Speaker 2 (11:17):
What's trendin on Star, what's happening in entertainment news, the
biggest stories of the day, and everything people are talking
about today in the bay?

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Why are people falling down? Just funny?

Speaker 3 (11:29):
I mean, as long as they're not hurt, right, it's
just funny.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
I mean.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
And that's my algorithm. That's what pops up in my
feed all the time. Oh yeah, but when I heard
that Jeff Bezos face planted trying to find the door
to the rocket that is he built.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
He built. You don't know where the door is, and
he literally doesn't know which one of these is the door.
I'm watching a video right now, and he the ground
was uneven. Maybe he missed his lady. He was you know,
he was away from her for four and a half moment.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
My goodness, I think twelve minutes tough.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Actually was twelve.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
What's bringing me so much joy as all these memes
because a lot of people have questioned why they did this?

Speaker 1 (12:09):
What was the point? Just flagrant? I mean for being transparent. Yes,
it's cool to go into space. Yes, it's really neat
to have an all woman crew. I think that's great. Sure,
but there is a lot, it's a lot of privilege.
No science was actually done. This was just a joy
ride up into space.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
I would have appreciated a lot more if they had
opened it up to you know, granted somebody's.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Wish or you know, a raffle for a golden ticket
for a regular human being, a regular lady, Yes, who
deserved it to go up in space. That would have
been neat.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
It's tax day, so all these different businesses are giving
you deals. You probably have to sign up for their
app or be a member of their Rewards Club. But
Benny Hanna is hooking you up flo Wild Wings Burger King.
You can get a one cent cheeseburger with a purchase
of a dollar or more so Dangerous California Pizza Kitchen might.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Have to go on tour today.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
I know there's a lot Mountain Mikes round table STK Steakhouse.
There's a couple of people doing the ten dollars and forty
cent cocktail, uh, which is ten forty get it got
forty form?

Speaker 1 (13:22):
They see what they did there.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
The Food and Drug Administration is urging patients and doctors
to check out their ozembic prescriptions after finding several hundred
units of fake versions in the US. Novo Nordisk, who
makes Ozempic and Wagovi, reported to the FDA on April
third that counterfeit one milligram injections are being distributed in
the US.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
By the way, are we just going to gloss over
the fact that you went straight from twenty seven fast
food specials right into check your ozempic.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Well, you definitely want to check your ozampic after getting
those deals today. Well, there's so many different people out
there now, like all of these things have hit the
market and I get ads for all kinds of stuff
that I know is not real, like keto gummies or
ozembic patches, like you don't even take an injection.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
There's just so much out there.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
You just want to make sure that you really what
you're getting is legit after you go to Krispy Kreme
for your tax day special.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Mm hm, that's exactly. That's exactly the process, is that
right there?

Speaker 4 (14:17):
Yep?

Speaker 1 (14:19):

a little bit of a back and. Forth, he you,
know seemed pretty, great so we agreed to go on
a first. Date he suggested this coffee. SHOP i am
not a coffee drinker by any. MEANS i don't like.
IT i don't like the taste of. It BUT i was, like,

(17:42):
WELL i don't want to just shoot this idea, down you,
know right off the, Bat so try to get out
of my comfort zone a little bit and just do.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
It, OKAY i agreed to.

Speaker 5 (17:52):
GO i was pretty nervous, though but, honestly it went.
Great at LEAST i really felt like it. Did we
had like this great, rapport this great back and forth
we joked with each. OTHER i mean it honestly seemed
like we had already known each other for a.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
While so the coffee didn't, matter, really.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
No, no and you, know, yeah it was still. GREAT
i got my, thing he got his coffee, drink and
it was totally, fine and we like ended it and
hugged each other at the end and said we wanted
to you, know you, know we had a good time
and wanted to do it again. Soon and THEN i

(18:33):
never heard from, him.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Okay which is usually how this, goes, Right we try
to figure out what.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
Happened here's What i'm.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Thinking tell us his coffee was contaminated and he comes
down with amoebic.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Dysentery oh what ambic? DYSENTERY whoa look it?

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Up is he still in the men's? Room? PROBABLY i don't,
either but it sounds. Violent you don't want me to
describe it To?

Speaker 5 (19:02):
Ian that would be better than IF i was just being. Ghosted,
yes thank.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
You here's the cups half. Full we're gonna call, him
so hang on the line for a, song, okay and

Three It's marcus And. Corey it's seven twenty. One good,
Morning good. MORNING i think it's hilarious that both of
us are near fifty and NOW aarp keeps hounding. Us
don't feel that. Old it's. Mean but in this a

(19:37):
R p, magazine seven foods that have been given a
bad rap that can be now taken off the naughty. List,
yes these are foods we all grew up thinking were
bad for. Us number one that always gets mentioned is
eggs because you might have heard they're high in. Cholesterol
this is, true but they don't necessarily equate the cholesterol

(19:58):
in our diets to the harmful cholesterol that's going to
clog your. Arteries And i'm not a, doctor so please
do your own.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Research, however, well egg whites got huge for a, while
and a friend of mine, is, uh she's a food. Doctor,
TECHNICALLY i know that's not the term for, it but
she was telling me that you just need one yoke,
today and what's in that.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Yoke coline is so good for your.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Brain there's a lot of my mom used to call
it brain, food but she was a. NUTRITIONIST i think
that was the word you were searching. For but thank,
you but uh food. Doctor it was fun to watch
you play through A, yeah so egg's not terrible for.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
YOU i usually do one and a, half So i'll
do one hole every day and a half in an egg.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
WHITE i go big on. Weekends. Yeah avocados also very
good for, you with that good, fat the kind of
fat that helps you lower your heart. Risk did you
get into the avocado? TOAST i like avocado toast a lot,
Something yeah or? Else it's, bland like when you make.

(21:05):
Guak there's nothing worse to me than guac that hasn't
been seasoned. Properly bland. Guac in, fact god, NEVER i
don't THINK i could forgive. MYSELF i was at a
house party and the guak was, bland AND i went
into the fridge and fixed it. MYSELF i don't know
HOW i feel about, that but to, me wasn't sure
IF i was saving lives or. Not bland guawk is

(21:26):
Like Sad mayo speaking a witch full fat salad dressing
apparently better for you because the low fat variety usually
they sub in. Crap, yes sugars and other things extra.
SUGAR i watch all, that but apparently the nutrients and

(21:46):
vegetables are better absorbed when they are accompanied by. Fat
so there you. Go, OKAY i would still watch your,
portions but it's not as bad as you. Think. Uh
i'm gonna put nuts in the same category as, avocados
