Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh my goodness, Hey Clint, your goodness, Oh my goodness,
ladies and gentlemen, it is Clint Black, the one and
only on the famous phone, Clint Black. How are you, sir?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I'm good har are you Happy holidays and Merry Christmas?
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Yes? Absolutely, one hundred percent. We are so stinking excited
that the country legend Clint Black is coming for our moon.
I dropped a little OnMobile, Alabama. What do you think
about that?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Well, I'm pretty excited too. This is uh, you know,
my mother was born in Mobile and her father, our grandfather, rather,
came to Mobile. That's how she ended up there. And
he used to play as part of an ensemble storing
(00:50):
silent films in the theater there and Mobile.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
What wow, I had no idea. That is amazing. That's
that's a nice little chunk of history.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah. And so you know, it feels like this great
full circle thing, our family of musicians and now I'm
coming back and playing at the big New Year's Eve celebration.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Yes, I'm so excited. Of course, KSJ. We've been around
forever and ever and ever and a big part of
the Moonpie drop and that you know, it's iconic here
and mobi Ole the Moonpie. And so now let me
reach way back in my memory, because this is my
twenty six year on KSJ. I think it was like
when I first came, like ninety eight, ninety nine. I
feel like you were here with Jimmy Buffett for some reason.
(01:33):
And I went to that concert.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
At yeah, that was eighty nine. Oh my gosh, I
was a little farther back there. Okay, Yes, I was playing.
I was playing at West Past Michael Martin Murphy's thing
in Colorado, Okay. And afterwards we're all sitting around just
playing in the clubhouse, jamming, and the Dirt band was
(01:58):
there and I played few Buffet songs and they said
they were gonna tell Jimmy I'm a parrot head. And
the next thing you know, I was invited to do
that show at Ladd Stadium, little Feet. Oh my, Jimmy
and I became friends. I sat in with him and
it was a real big deal.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
How wonderful is that? Well, of course he's native son
here too, so lots of ties, lots of connections. But
I guess my biggest connection to you is I wait
all your songs and my favorite was, you know, back
in the Killing time, and even the good run of
Bad Luck, Nobody's Home. Those are all my favorites, A
bad Goodbye, a better man, loving blind. Of course there's
so many more. But what are some of your favorites
(02:39):
to sing? Do you have any babies that you like
or is it like picking children? You know, I don't.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
It's if I had to pick, you know, it would
be based on what I'm doing as an instrumentalist. You know,
I play a lot more lead guitar than I used to,
so those are fun. Whenever I've got some harmonica stuff
on the beginning of State of Mind, I love doing
that one. Singing is great, but yeah, I'm a musician,
(03:07):
so I love to be busy up there as a musician.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Okay, I love that. I love that. Clint Black, let
me ask you this. Have you had a moonpie? Since
we're famous for the moonpie with our.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Marti gras, Oh yeah, yeah, I love the moon pies.
I think of the vanilla moon pie I think is
my favorite.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Oh okay, I like the chocolate myself. And so we're
super excited again that you're going to be here for
our big Moonpie drop Downtown Mobile. No, they'll have a
lot of stuff for the kids early in the daytime,
and then decorated umbrella contest. That's a whole Marti Graus thing.
We got the Port City second Liners and the Juke
Jukebox Brass Band, if I can say it. Then we'll
(03:50):
have the cutting of the giant moon pot, not the
same one we're gonna drop. Then we've got the parade,
and then we have got Grayson Capps will be before
our headliner, mister Black, and again that's going to be
on New Year's Eve Downtown mobile. Clint Black, are you
you game for all this craziness?
Speaker 2 (04:07):
You know, I'm gamed for that big moon pie and
he's going to pass that up. And by the way,
there ain't nothing wrong with chocolate, thank you, sir, chocolate
I didn't.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Like, same, same, same, all right, my friend. Well, I
am so excited. Y'all have heard us sprinkling in some
Clint Black here on ninety five KSJ. Will continue to
do so because we're so excited that you are coming, sir.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
I am too, thank you. We're all excited. This is
first New Year's Eve I played in twenty five years probably,
oh my godness.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Well, we're looking forward to.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
I couldn't pass it up. You had me at Moonpie.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
All right. Well, I'm so excited to see you. I'll
see you on stage that night and we'll hug hug
your neck and all that business and have a Moonpie together.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Okay, I can't wait. All right, Clinton, Christmas, thank you.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Merry Christmas to you two.
