K S. J.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
Shelby Mitchell right here, thank you for coming on into
the Shelby Show. And I am so excited. I've got
somebody on the famous phone and this is amazing because wow,
it's mister Craig Campbell. Everybody more cow Bell please?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, more Campbell? Please?
Speaker 1 (00:22):
How are you doing, sir man?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
I'm doing so well. How are you guys?
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Uh? Fantastic. I'm telling you what. It's you know, We're
just blowing and going and all of a sudden we
have this amazing concert coming up at the Floria, Bama
for Saint Jude. And have you heard of country artist
Craig Campbell? You are him.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I'm the guy, yeah, and I'm you know what. I'm
so excited to get done and hang out with you guys.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Yes, wow, yes, I know it. So I was trying
to reach back in my memory, but I can't remember anything.
I've told all the listeners I have CRS, which means
can't remember anything. But I do know. I do remember.
It was only a few years ago, maybe five years
ago or so, that you did something with us at
the wharf when we had a big celebration and you
had a big concert and you were right there in
(01:05):
the middle of the stage at Marlin Circle, and that
was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Oh yeah, I remember that. Yeah we Uh, I don't
even I don't know what was going on, but I
do remember. It was a great setup. It was just
in the middle of everybody and people were just walking by,
and I think we were acoustic. I think it was
just me and my two guys. Yeah, I remember that.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, yeah, that was a lot of fun. And of
course we played you for years and years here on
ninety five K s J. And I'll pull some of
my favorites out every once in a while and throw
them in there. But it's so it's so exciting to
have brand new music from from you, Craig Campbell. Can
you tell everybody about that?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Oh man, it's uh, if you're if you, if you're excited,
you can only imagine how how I feel about it.
It's been it's been too long. I took some time
away from from working with with with radio and uh,
you know, honestly, the reason I stepped away for a
minute because I lost my record deal and I thought
(02:00):
that the only way to be on the radio was
was to have a record deal. And when the record
deal went away, I said, well, I guess my radio
days are over. And then you know Buddies with three
Bogers and I saw with DEPD last year with with
She's somebody's daughter yet totally independent without a record label,
and I got me to think and I said, may
maybe I can do this. And but the time away
(02:23):
was good. It allowed me to get my family straightened out,
because I mean, we're you know that my girls is
growing up, and I wanted to be home for those guys.
Me and my wife opened a restaurant to top it
all off. You know, I was waiting, I waiting to
find the right song, and I think I think we did.
I think Missing You is the perfect songs and I'm
excited about it.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Dude, it is great. I mean it just there's just
one of those where it's like a toe tapper and
this is a really good song. So I'm very happy
for you and proud for you and proud to play
it for our listeners on ninety five KSJ. So real quick,
let's go ahead in case people are wondering. Saturday, April
the fifth, y'all, that's the that's the date. You got
to go ahead and get your tickets. We got details
at ninety five KSJA dot com, or you can go
(03:05):
straight to Florabama dot com and get those tickets for
Craig Campbell Saturday. It's one hundred percent of the ticket
sales are going to Saint Jude because that's the way
Florabama and KSJ like to rock this man.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
That's awesome. I love I love working with Saint Jude.
It's just what they do for the kids and the families.
It's just amazing. Truly are miracle workers. And God bless
y'all for doing what you do. And I'm excited to
be a part of that.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Well, look, thank you for donating your time and talent.
I mean, I appreciate you doing that very much, and
anything else that you want to tell the folks on
the Gulf Coast. I know you're super busy and I'm
not going to keep you too long.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
No, I appreciate the time, and I appreciate you letting
me hop on to talk about the new song. Missing you,
but I missed me and my wife open to restaurant,
and so it's doing really well up here in Middle Tennessee. However,
We do have a location that's going to be opening
down on thirty A, about an hour and a half
from you guys in Santa Rosa Beach. We will have
(04:04):
a Grindstone Cowboy in Santa Rosa Beach in twenty twenty six.
So it's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
That's not a coffee place, is it.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
It started out as the coffee shop and we still
served really really good coffee, but where we're full blown restaurant.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
That's exciting. Oh, I cannot wait. I will be there
on the first night of your opening or before you
here you go. That's amazing. Well, I'll tell you what.
If y'all want to hear more, you can go to
the podcast section at ninety five KSJ dot com and
we will continue this conversation with mister Craig Campbell. So
I'm super excited about that. In the meantime, I tell
you what, Craig, I'm gonna play your song coming up
(04:40):
very soon right here on ninety five KSJ. Thank you
so much for being on the phone with us, and
we'll see you at the Florida Bama.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Okay, absolutely can't wait, and thank y'all.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Okay, now I can breathe a little bit done with
the radio parts. Shelby Mitchell again with Craig Campbell, and
we've switched over to the podcast because you know, to
be on the radio, Craig, you know, we got to
I can't say very much. They don't let us talk
very much because we got to get back to playing
all the hot country on ninety five KSJ.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
So I get it, I get it, you know. So,
I mean, I know what what you listeners want to hear.
And I appreciate making getting getting me off the air
just so you can play my song. So well, I'll
roll with that anytime.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Absolutely, it's a great song. And yeah, this is this
is very exciting now. Uh so you were you were
mentioning you kind of took some time off. It's such
an interesting conversation. And this is now my twenty seventh
year on ninety five KSJ. And and so you and I,
I mean, you've been playing music a long long time.
I've been playing music from my you know, perspective a
(05:39):
long long time. And it's interesting the way that you
don't have to have a record label to get the
song on the radio anymore. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
No, you don't it is wild. It was it was
that way for a long time. And and uh and truthfully,
when when I when I left Broken Bow, I thought, yeah,
I thought my days with radio were over. And and
so for this to be an opportunity, I'm just I'm excited. Man.
It's it's it's a it's a lot of people are
calling it the wild wild West, you know, because there's
(06:10):
a lot of things are happening that has never happened before.
I'm I'm excited to be a part of that and
to be able to have this song. I truly believe
this is a hit song. And and good the team,
the team that I have, and to have the support
from from radio and you guys, it's just it's amazing.
And I'm we're gonna have some fun sure well.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
And you know the thing is too when you first
went around, you know, and people don't think about this
later on in life, but that first impression does so much.
Whether it's you too, you know, the folks at the
radio station or you to the listeners, you know, they're
gonna remember. And then when it comes back time for okay,
now now you're doing this on your own, people are
(06:50):
gonna remember. Oh that was a nice guy. Oh he
had a great song. Oh I liked what he stood for.
And they're gonna, they're gonna their ears are gonna perk up.
And that's what I think is your situation.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
I feel like I feel less. You're right, you know,
I was able to and I'm blessed. I'm blessed to
have had some songs on the radio that have done
well and the relationships that I've built over the past
ten years with radio. And I made some phone calls.
I called some people that I knew that were still
in radio, and I said, Hey, what do y'all think
about me coming back with a big old hit song
And they were like, dude, radio misses you. Radio needs
(07:21):
to have some more Greg Campbell on it. So that
just made me feel really good to know that I
have people in radio that are that are excited for
me to be back one hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
I think, because again I have CRS. Can't remember anything.
I think that you came and did something in Mobile.
We had a big festival years ago that was really successful.
It was called Bayfest. It was downtown Mobile. I think
you were with us for Beyfest one year. Were you
not or am I just it was it was Downtown Mobile.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
It's very very very possible. But and you when you do,
you know, when you do one hundred plus shows a year,
they you.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Can't remember every single one of them.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I can't remember all the but you know, most of
the time when you remember a show, it was for
something really bad.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
No, how about something really good? How about that?
Speaker 2 (08:09):
You know? Sometimes so all right.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
I don't know what year this was, but I think
when like TikTok is really getting maybe after the pandemic
and people were really on socials, somebody did like a
remake of your clip of Outskirts to Heaven and it
was going viral, and that's where I heard it again,
and I was like, wait a minute, So I heard
somebody else's version and then I heard your version, and
I'm like, that song is still so good, and it's
(08:35):
I feel like it keeps going, you know, out there
in the cloud in social land.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Yeah, it's it's a special song.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
That's my favorite, one of yours.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
It's having it on the radio by you know, twenty sixteen,
twenty seventeen when I had it on the radio, and
then yeah, yeah, it was during COVID when when warren
Zyers recorded himselves doing it yes, in the stairwell of
an apartment complex, and it did, it took off from
went viral, and then he.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Reached out to me and he asked for my permission
to record the song and I was like, absolutely, Oh wow.
I don't care who sings it. I think he's you know,
he's got a his fan base is completely different than mine.
And I'm like, I don't care. I don't care who
who sings it. I'm just excited that they're going to
get to hear it. So well, that's my blessing. That
was pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
That's great. I mean, that's respect and yeah, you're right,
you're you're cranking it out to a new generation. But
that's cool. And he's one of these that there, he's
noticed for you know, I mean, he's a talented guy,
but he's also he posted these what they call the
thirst traps. And I happened to be looking on your
social media and you kind of post a little thirsty
I see you in a I see you shirtless and
(09:43):
in a hot tub singing. What the heck's that all about?
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Craig Campbell, Well, you know, the hat tub. The hot
tub has become a thing. Where like, if you see
me in the hot tub, that's more than likely I'm
announcing shows. Okay, so that's that's when I do my
show announcement. I'm in the hot tub with my cowboy hat. Okay,
it's become a thing. So yeah, I've I've been known
to get down to my skills there now and in
(10:07):
front of the camera.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
What does your wife say about that?
Speaker 2 (10:10):
See, she is fine with it. It's my girl. It's
my girls that are like, oh, Dad, Uh, it's it's
like my friends, my friends see this, Dad. I'm like,
I know, I know exactly.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Gosh, that is hilarious. How old are your girls now?
And how are they telling us what they're doing?
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Presley seventeen? Uh? Any fourteen? Their goodness, you know they're
growing up the full time volleyball year round. There's uh,
you know, Press is driving, and uh, it's just it's
pretty wild to know that I got two teenagers. But
it's it's also I got some good girls, man, and
and uh, my my oldest Presles she's she's kind of
(10:52):
getting into the whole singing thing. Oh it's pretty it's
pretty cool to share that with her.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
And oh I love that.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
It's uh, they may being a dad pretty song.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Oh that is so awesome. So okay, I have to
ask you about this. It was so funny. And I
can't watch everything because everything is on all the time
twenty four seven, but I try to keep up with
watching clips. And I saw you on American Idol, but
not you were like trying out or anything. But tell
me about that experience you were helping. Was it a
(11:22):
friend or a daughter of a friend who's performing trying out?
Speaker 2 (11:26):
So yeah, all of that. Some friends that have been
living in Eagleville for a few years now that I
have become friends with, and so their daughter is obviously
an amazing singer. So they started her and my daughter
started hanging out and just become friends and they were
(11:47):
getting together at the house and writing songs. And so
then one day she's like, Hey, I'm trying out for
American Idol. Would you play Fianna for my audition? I'm like, absolutely,
because I think she's super talented.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Yeah, she's good.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
We went, we went down to Nashville for two days
and I was able to be a part of her
day and it was a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
That is so crazy. You know what did what did Luke,
Bryan and Lionel Ritchie and and all them. Who else
am I leaving out? Carrie? What did they say about you?
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Well, Luke, you know, and most a lot of people didn't.
Don't may or may not know this, but I used
to play piano for Luke way back in the day.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
And.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
So they didn't. Nobody told him that I was going
to be this So it was kind of a surprise,
pretty neat to have that have that moment. And when
the cameras when we hugged.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
It out, did you cry? Did he cry?
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Oh? No, I don't think he cried. But it was
it was a fun It was a fun moment to
be a part of.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
That's awesome. When is is the the young lady going
to Hollywood or she's going right?
Speaker 2 (12:52):
So she went to Hollywood and she's I think they're
going to air her. They got one more episode of
auditions and then her first episode with her in it
is March thirty first.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Okay, okay, so if depending on when you listen to
this podcast, you may have already seen that particular episode,
but that's okay, that's cool. Well, Craig Campbell, that I mean,
I just I just think You're the coolest and I'm
glad that you're back. So Flora, Bama. Oh my gosh,
what a great place to do a Saint Jude's show.
You just couldn't have picked a better place. I think
(13:24):
we did good putting this together.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Huh No, you did, absolutely. I love that place and
it's been it's been a hot minicens i've been down there,
So I'm looking forward to the show for a lot
of reasons, Saint you Ben one of them, but also
just to get down there and play some country music
for some great fans.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Yes, sir, And I'm gonna have a bushwhacker because I'm
over twenty one, so I'll be happy.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
I'll have one for sure.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Okay, I'll be sure. I'll happy. I'll be happy to
buy you one, or we'll make Steve Powers buy us
both one. How about that?
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yeah, he let him pay for us. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Well, thank you for being such a fine performer and
a fine person. And we appreciate your what you're all about,
and we love your new song and everybody can hear
it on ninety five KSJ. And also it's ninety four

Speaker 2 (14:13):
So yeah, there you go.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
All right, my friend, anything else you want to tell
the folks on the podcast before we let you go?
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Yes, I would personally request that anytime your listeners are
listening to your station on the iHeart app and they

thumbs up.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Oh yes, uh oh, Mick, you get a cow bell
for that. I should have mentioned that you had good.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
