Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hello, are there Holiday pals. I'm Brett Sanders. My guest
this week on the Brett Sanders Podcast, the brilliant comedian
Josh Blue. Josh just releases comedy special titled Freak Accident
on YouTube and you can watch it for free. Josh
Blue is also performing at the Historic Comedy Works in
Downtown Denver December nineteenth through the twenty first.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
My favorite place to perform, hands down.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
It's like home. I have seen your shows downtown and
the people who turn out for you, they love you
so much.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
It's unreal.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
And you know, as cool as comedy books is. My
fans are like that everywhere I go. It's really cool.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Whenever I go to a city, they're like, we're so
happy you're back. We know when you're here, the show's
gonna rock. Your fans are easy. We don't have to
kick anybody.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Out, so they've never had to kick out a Josh
Blue fans.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Well, I mean, I'm sure a couple. They tend to
drink too much.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Does anyone heckle you ever?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
No, not normal heckles.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
You know what do you mean by abnormal heckles?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Like a normal heckle will be like you suck like
abnormal heckles, like my uncle has a spiny bifida.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Okay, well, I want to write some notes down for
this Saturday when I go, you suck. Yeah, you got it.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, I think you can handle it.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
And I will destroy you.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
See I like, honestly, I like a little hecko.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
I do because it shows you I am not working
by a script.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
I will.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
I will come and verbally destroy you.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
You say you don't work by a script, but your
show every time I see it is a different show. Right,
you have so much to say to the world. Yeah, man,
so much to share. I mean every show is like
a snowflake. That's what I said. So what can we
expec effect from Josh Blue this weekend?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
I mean, well, so let me say this.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
First of all, Yes, my special Freak Accident dropped last
night on YouTube.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
So oh that's great.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I'm very excited about that. So people can watch it.
Look up my name and it's called Freak Accident. And
so now that my new special is in the world,
I'm on a path of writing new materials.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
So I'm just all over the map.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
My new you know, the stuff I'm doing live is
me working new jokes and a mixture of old jokes,
and it's just a collage of what comes out of
my brain.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Do you work twenty four to seven? Are you one
of those types of artists who you're always you always
have your intenta raised.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, it's funny. You can say twenty four to seven
or not at all, one.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Of the other.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
No, that's not true.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
But I mean I'm constantly taking in material, taking in
you know, the world around me is my material, right,
So things happened to me and I take it to
the stage. I never write anything down. Stuff just happens
and I'm like, oh, I can make that into a joke,
or I'll bounce it off another comedian. And then like

(03:12):
last weekend, I was in sarah Sota, Florida. I had
this idea on my head probably for ten years, and
I set it to the comic and he bounced it
back to me and it just clicked in my head.
And then I went out and did five minutes of
new material, which was like, oh, well, how did that happen?
Where it just came out and it was just like
almost polished already.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
It was weird. Well, you make it sound like it's spontaneous,
but actually a whole lifetime goes into finding that attitude
and that approach. So let's talk about twenty twenty four. Yeah,
what a year. The world's about to change drastically. I
understand I've heard that. But what was your favorite moment
of twenty twenty four? This is it?

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Man?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Oh that's so sweet. Really? What was your favorite? Ah?

Speaker 3 (03:57):
You know, I've had lots of just cool uh cool things.
I actually got to last spring. I did the keynote
speech at my alma mater for the commencement, which is
the Evergreen State College and Olympia Washington, a little hippie

(04:17):
college out there.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Now, did they teach lumberjack in there? Is there? Anything? Else?
Is a lot?

Speaker 3 (04:23):
It's actually a pretty cool school. You can create your
own courses, and I studied stand up.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
That's interesting though, because you've had You've tried to teach
me how to throw an axe? Oh? Yeah, is that
where you learned? You cultivated that at this set?

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Yeah. I did a lot of asking, and I've also
learned you're unteachable.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I am teachable anything physical.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
No, See that was a big moment for you, And
that's that's a beautiful Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
And I'll tell my kids I mean they're growing their
own path, you know, teenagers as I was an EBB
and flow and this has been a good year for us.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
I'm proud of them.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
They're wonderful kids.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Oh thanks.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
You have such a bu beautiful life.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Oh shucks, except.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
For all the animal skulls. When I go over to
your house.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
That's the act thoughing.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Are you still collecting the animal skulls?

Speaker 2 (05:08):
I am? You know.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Wait, what's your latest acquisition? A hippo A hippo's head?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Yeah, skull, It's gigantic.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
How does one go about obtaining a hippo skull?

Speaker 2 (05:18):
I can't tell you.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
That's okay because I didn't really want to know.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
No, they have that uh Oddities expo here they had
the so there.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
And what about your marijuana brand? Is that still still going?

Speaker 2 (05:32):
That'st Josh BLUs Dream Yeah, pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Yeah, I mean it's a weird, interesting life, as you know.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
I know, it's fascinating. You have that ranch up in
the mountains.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah, still working on that.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
It's I love it so much up there, man, that's
my little getaway.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
I went to visit you a few months ago. Yeah,
and I had to use the the thing. Yeah, you
told me to go find a tree.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, lots of trees.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
So do you have running water?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Well, I just want to say that tree you used
has now died. I don't appreciate that. I don't know
what you're I don't know what you're getting rid of
out of your system, but it's not good for Spruce.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
I know that. This is, literally, by the way, in
my entire career, the first bathroom comedy I've ever done
well because I shunned that sort of thingological.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Stuff that I could pull it out.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
You did it, you did it. Well.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
That's again another mark on the year twenty twenty four.

Speaker 1 (06:28):

Speaker 2 (06:30):
What did I see?

Speaker 1 (06:32):

Speaker 1 (06:34):
I guess that was last year.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Well, I saw this year well Behind the Times, Brett,
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
I saw that Joker, that Second Joker, but I didn't
see it well because critics panned it. Yeah, I have
to tell you, this movie is so interesting, is it?
I didn't like the first one?

Speaker 2 (06:50):
You didn't. I like them first.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
I don't know if you like the second one, but
the second one is almost a refutation of the first one. Really, Yeah,
I don't know. What that means. It made people really mad,
but I thought it was really interesting.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Really Yeah, well you are oddballs, thank you, buddy.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
I mean that in the nicest possib Yeah, I know,
but I don't think of you as an oddball.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Oh come on, you know you No, I really don't
about my skull collection.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
And well, but that makes you interesting, that odd You're
one of the most nurturing, sweetest I don't know you
even want this to get out because you go on
stage and you're you know, you do the great thing
of this lunatic, but you're not. You're the loveliest person.
You're one of the nicest people I know. Oh you,
I just don't want to share that with everyone.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Well, that's fine the world. I'm a sweetheart, America's sweetheart.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
