Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Morning Breeze, The Morning Breeze on Demand.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good Morning the Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Cord. It's
April seventeenth, twenty twenty five. I did not have drizzle
slash rain on my Bengo card this morning.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
No, I did. Was a bit of a surprise, I know.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
And I thought when I when it first hit, yeah,
I thought, well, this is just because I'm in Lafayette.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
And then it was in Rinda, and then it was
in Berkeley, and then it was in Oakland and then
over the bridge.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
So by that point you're like, this thing is happening.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
It's happening. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
And I did not see that coming because all we've
been hearing about is how great the weather's going to be,
which it is.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
But this is this is how the Bay Area work.
It's not I don't know about it's not rainy. It's
like a misty rain. It's a misty light sprinkle.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
I always think about the people that ride motorcycles in
the morning if it's dry where they are. Let's say
they're coming from San Jose or they're coming from Antioch
Orts right out there, and they're like, it's gonna beautiful.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
This afternoon. I'm gonna ride my motorcycle and then they
hit it. What do you do? Do You just power through?
Re you turn around and go home patch your car.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
I would bet people who do that though probably deep
dive a little more on what's gonna happen in the weather.
They have to, because they've got to be prepared for it.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
I think that would be one of the toughest things
in life, to ride a motorcycle in the rain. Oh yeah,
I can't even imagine. But yeah, it should be clearing
up later on this morning, and we should have a
sunny day here in the Bay Area. We're at eight
seven seven nine eight one oh nine eight one. Coming
up this morning eight twenty, we have another chance for
you to go see Little River Band at Cash Creek

(01:40):
Casino Resort.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
That's right, that.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Show may second. We're giving you tickets to the show
and throwing in an overnight stay so you don't have
to go home that night. You can stay overnight and
enjoy yourself.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yes, it's gonna be so much fun. So again, that's
at eight twenty. Coming up at six twenty five, as
we always do, it's the morning Breeze Brain Teas.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Driving experts say you're less likely to get into an
accident if you do this regularly.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Regularly, so it's something that you have to do on
the regular.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Something you can do on the regular that will help
you avoid accidents, according to driving experts.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Eight seven seven nine eight one oh nine eight one.
Morning Breeze Brain Tease. It's at six twenty five right
here at Louise.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
It's music from the Jets at six twenty six here
on ninety eight point one The Breeze. It's the Morning
Breeze with Carolyn and Court and time now for the
Morning Breeze Brain teas. Let's challenge your brain a little
bit this morning. It's sponsored by Mike Council Plumbing. You're
in clean hands with Mike Council Plumbing. Visit them at
mc plumbing dot com. Okay, driving experts say you're less
likely to get into an accident if you do this regularly.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Eight seven seven nine eight one oh nine eight one
is how you reach us, Linda and Walnut Creek.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
You are up first, What do you think The answer.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
Is, well, I think that it's just looking around, being
aware of what's happening around you when you're driving.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Are you pretty good about that. Not everybody's great at that.

Speaker 6 (03:06):
I'm very bad.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Yeah. I do not drive distracted, and I do not
use my phone or anything. Even backing up, I don't.
I don't rely on the.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Screen off, and I think following that that rule would
definitely lead to fewer accidents. But that is not the
particular answer we're looking for today.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
Well, thank you very much, and I will keep listening
as I always do.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Have a good day, Linda.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
Okay, you too, Bye bye, bye bye.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Good morning. Michelle in Antioch. What's your guess?

Speaker 7 (03:37):
Check your driving circle?

Speaker 1 (03:39):
What's a driving circle?

Speaker 7 (03:41):
It's what's around you at all times. So if you're
you're checking your mirrors, you're always looking spots. You could
potentially avoid an accident. If you see somebody, say to
the left or to the right of you, who's starting
to swerve, or we where they're looking like they're getting
out of control, if you're paying enough attention, you can

(04:02):
get out of that situation by moving over.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
I think what you're saying is not wrong because I
think if people were to drive that way, there'd be
fewer accidents happening out there. Correct, But people don't drive
that way, so accidents.

Speaker 7 (04:14):
Happen right right. When I was a bus driver, that
was one of the things that we're taught. It's you
then what's right around you, and then make your circle
just a little bit bigger so that you can avoid Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah, those buses are big. Yeah, yep.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, So I love this.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
So in addition to what you just said, Michelle, which
again I'm not going to say is wrong, driving experts say,
there's another way for you to avoid accidents if you
do this regularly, and that is to back into a
parking space.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
Oh you know it.

Speaker 7 (04:50):
As a bus driver, I always did, Yeah, because you
always set yourself up to get out right instead of
pulling in. And now I got to back up around
all these cars, And I mean it happens with cars too.
You gonna learn to back up people.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
I feel like we just became Michelle's bus driving therapy.
She's letting it all out right now, brain tease. When
you're a professional driver, these are the things that go
through your mind.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Let it out, Michelle, let it out.

Speaker 7 (05:17):
I'm going to Fresno today, so okay, we'll to watch
out Fresno.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
She's coming in on.

Speaker 7 (05:25):
Thank you, bhy.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
It's the morning Breeze Brain Teas and we play every
weekday morning here at six twenty five.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
And a reminder coming up this morning at eight twenty
another chance to win tickets to see Little Riverband at
Cash Creek Casino Resort.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yes, plus we're gonna throw in an overnight's stay, So
be here at a twenty for your chance to win
on the Breeze.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Six forty three.

Speaker 2 (05:44):

Speaker 4 (06:05):
And today Michael in San Francisco is calling in. He's
actually got a question Carolyn about your favorite sandwich shop.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Hi, Michael.

Speaker 8 (06:12):
Just the other day, Carolyn, I heard you talking about
mister Pickles and I was like, Okay, she cannot be
talking about the mister Pickles sandwich shop right across the
street from the San Jalisco restaurant. I don't you every Sunday, Like,
is she talking about.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Where is that? Is that in San Francisco?

Speaker 6 (06:28):
Yeah, mister Pickles.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Oh my gosh, hold on, I am going to Google
right now. I'm absc with mister Pickle.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
We this is gonna get worse and worse because let
me give you some backstory.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
Mister Pickles, San Francis, Cisco.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Okay, Carolyn and I were once out in Conquered and
we got there a little early, so she said, she's like,
what do you want want to eat? And I said,
I'm good with anything. This sandwich would be fine. And
near our event was a mister Pickles and Conquered yep.
And ever since she took me to that mister Pickles,
she apparently has become obsessed with this rap they have there.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
That was my first mister Pickles experience. It's in Conquered.
It was so good that yeah, I had a gluten
free wrap on my mister Pickles. So now I have
found a location closer to my home also in Conquered
that I frequent at least once a week.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
And it's it's a slippery.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Slope because I went twice last week and now she's
finding out there's a mister Pickles in the city.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
I just looked up twentieth Street in San Francisco.

Speaker 8 (07:28):
Yeah, so I was like Carolyn McCardell in person on
action at one of these Sundays and seems over you know.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
So I was like, you what, anybody in the area
goes to any mister Pickles, there's a good chance you're
going to see me.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
I'm frequenting them all.

Speaker 8 (07:45):
You know. It's funny that people at the restaurant across
the street that I frequent every week, if not twice
a week, they're like, oh, yeah, that.

Speaker 6 (07:50):
Place is famous.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Oh yeah, very late.

Speaker 8 (07:53):
I mean it's a sandwich shop.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Right right, yeah, it was famous in my mind. That's
her darn sure.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Apparently it's get the hot tea. It's h O T
and then the letter T. It's not spicy, but it
has some sort of secret sauce.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
It is so good.

Speaker 8 (08:08):
Now I'll have to go make it a point to
order a sandwich from them. It's like, oh, okay, in
the mission or something. If she's just big of than
mister Pickles.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Good news, mister Pickles is all over the Bay Area. Okay, well,
now I have to go visit mister Pickles dot com.
To find the location nearest you and if.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
You go to the one, if you go to one
of the ones and conquered, there's a good chance you're
going to run into Carolyn McCarthy.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
There will be a sighting for sure.

Speaker 8 (08:39):
You guys have a great rept the day you say
it again as always, have a great Easter.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
You too, Michael, Thank you, you too.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Bye.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Ask us anything where you can literally, ask us anything,
including about sandwiches. Give us a call eight seven seven
nine eight one.

Speaker 6 (08:57):

Speaker 2 (08:57):
We do it every weekday morning here at six. Coming

(09:37):
eight one oh nine eight one.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
And good morning to Stu, who normally calls us from Antioch,
but you're actually joining us from out of state this morning.

Speaker 6 (09:45):
It's a beautiful sunny day down here by Tampa, Florida.
The waters eighty and the humidity's eighty. Oh my god,
I'm in paradise. I've been here for about a week
and a half. Fun to be walking up and down
the beach. The beach that week, come too. It's about
a two mile long, all sandy, so you can walk
from one under the other not get lost, which we love,

(10:06):
love to call in the state ninety eight point one
debris we still can pick up all the way on
the East Coast. I love iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
That's so nice, Stu taking us with you on vacation.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
Yep, do every year. Thank you for being so much
like family. We've been coming down to this area for
about twenty years and we just love it. One of
the best beaches in the world as far as we're concerned.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
That's pretty great.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeah, it is.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
The really exciting thing for Martha and I. All six
of our kids were able to come down to it.
Even more, one of the our oldest daughters fifty one,
and she's never been to Florida before, so it's like
bringing a little kid to Disneyland. Her eyes to just
wide open the whole time because she never experienced this.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
As a dad.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
You must be like over the moon just to hear
that excitement in her voice. And even though she's fifty one,
when they're fifty one, it's super heavy.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
Yeah, yep.

Speaker 6 (10:55):
One of our favorite restaurants out here is actually Amish
restaurant is called Yoders. It's literally family style food. And
we kept telling the boys and plates are huge dis
order one between two of you. No, no, no, we
can eat anything. Yeah. By the time the seris that
could hardly move.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
That's a good meal right there. You know, it's a
good place. That's a good meal.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Stu, thanks for calling in this morning.

Speaker 6 (11:19):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Yeah, enjoy the rest of your trip.

Speaker 6 (11:21):
Bye.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
If you've got a brighter side like Stu, we would
love to hear from you. Eight seven seven nine eight
one nine eight one.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Yes doctor sus yes, ir, right, court question for you
are you typically a faster eater or.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
A slower eater?

Speaker 3 (11:36):
I'm super fast.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Court, stick around, okay, seven twenty five. I'm going to
tell you why you need to slow down. This is
critically important if you're a fast eater.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Seven twenty five.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
You want it, Yes, you want to be here for this.
I'll be here all right, seven twenty five. We'll tell
you why. Coming up on the breeze, John Lennon here
on ninety eight point one.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
The breeze.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
It's the morning Breeze with Carolyn and Court at seven
twenty six.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
So I was asking you earlier if you are somebody
who was a fast eater. Do you blow through your
food you eat very quickly or you slow when it
comes to dining and you enjoy your meal.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Some would describe me, and by that I mean everybody,
as a quick fast eater.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
You remember this the one time that we went out
to eat, I don't remember you plowing through your food
well quickly.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
We went to a buffet type place where you kind
of have to pace yourself. That's probably the one exception.
You didn't want to get the meat sweats, No, because
if you go you can get more. I feel like
if you slow it down, slow your role. I am
glad you brought that up, I think. But other than that,
if like I sit down at the dinner table whatever,
especially growing up eating fast, you're yeah, well, that's because

(12:46):
you've told me before, because you have a lot of
kids in the family.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
I grew up in a family of there were eight kids.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
If you did not eat quickly, you didn't eat okay,
you especially didn't get seconds.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
So here's the deal.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
They're saying, if you're the kind of person who can
polish off breakfast, lunch, your dinner in less than twenty
or thirty minutes, you are eating too fast because it
takes the stomach about twenty minutes to communicate to your
brain that you're full. So if you eat too quickly,
too fast, you're going to miss those signals. Also, people

(13:16):
who eat quickly, they're likely to swallow more air. That
could lead to bloating, that could lead to into indigestion.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
You're describing me.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
If you don't chew all of your food completely, you
might not get all the nutrients from your food cord.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
So yeah. Interesting.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
They're also saying, some studies have suggested the people who
eat too quickly have the highest risk of obesity. So
they're telling you here's how you slow down. Okay, tell
me if anydy is appeal to you. Okay, turn off
the TV and put down your phone. Just eat in silence.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
I don't want.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
I don't typically don't watch television while I'm eating, Okay
most of the time.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
Check that box. Step one.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Use your non dominant hand to eat. Ooh, just change
it up easy. Now, try utensils you might not ordinarily use.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Use chop stepsticks.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yeah, yeah, you do that. I've done that on occasion.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
How about increasing the number of bites you take? You
chew them a lot of bites.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
When I was younger, I knew somebody who was like,
you got to chew your food ninety times before you swallow.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
It's like ninety times.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Okay, Well they have a study.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Okay, there's a woman who used to eat a tube
of potato chips every night, and they told her to
slow down.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
They said, hey, how.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
About the pringles tubes that come in those I hope
because those are so good. Have you the cheese ones?

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Oh yeah, she was so good.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Anyway, when they told this woman, they said, hey, slow down,
eat every single chip individually. Guess what happened? She said,
This is her quote. It's like having a mouthful of
claggy chemicals. This woman didn't find the chips enjoyable anymore.
It worked, so slow down to every bite individually.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
So she was eating like multiple chips at a time,
just getting through them as quickly as possible.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
I have no judgment there. Wow, I've done that. We springles.
I mean a can is like a serving, right, one serving.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Leave of oreos?

Speaker 1 (15:00):
What what is that one oreo? Anyway, So that's what
they're saying.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Slow down the chicken up, and that's just better for
a digestion overall.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
I'm going to work on that this week, are you. Yes,
I'm gonna slow my roll. See if I can eat slower.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Okay, that'll be your goal.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Chances are it's not gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
I don't think it is.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
All right, We're at eight seven seven nine eight one,
nine eight one and coming up this morning, just under
an hour from now, we have your next chance to
go to Cash Creek Casino Resort to see Little River Bands.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
That's right, they are performing May second. We're gonna send
you to the show. Cash Creek Casino Resort, and we're
gonna give you an overnight stay. So be here eight
twenty your chance to win here on the morning breeze.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Did you hear a few days ago court that publisher's
clearing house?

Speaker 1 (15:46):
You know publishers clearinghouse, right, the sweep steaks. Who doesn't
know many?

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yeah, they send you things, you give them money, you
get entered to win, like a gajillion dollars. Yeah, they
filed for bankruptcy.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Yeah, so people must not be a.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Playing as much.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Well that or I was actually thinking it could be
because we moved my mom into assisted living.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
Uh huh, Oh was your mom a regular participation?

Speaker 3 (16:13):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
I went over to my mom's house when she was
living at home before she moved into assisted living.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
It's definitely.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
There's so many publishers clearing house sweepstakes entry envelopes at
her house.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
I was like, this has to stop. We never did it,
but I always had this dream of winning it. Because
if you're a child of the eighties, you remember the
commercials with Ed McMahon showing up on your doorstet had
balloons in a gigantic check. That's exactly what I think
my mom was really hoping that would happen someday. So
you you had, but you had to spend money, yes,

(16:49):
like because you and it involved magazines, right.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Yes, we had every magazine under the sun, and you
know why, Publisher's clearing house.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
So you would, you would, you would pay money because
I have no idea how it worked. You pay money,
and you would subscribe to the magazines and in doing
so that you registered to win a bajillion dollars for
the rest of your life.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
I'm happy to say I don't know the exact way
that this was played. We could get my mom on
the phone right now and ask her, because she certainly
knew the rules. But no, I think you write them
a check or you give them money. You do subscribe
to something, then that gets you an entry for whatever
that jackpot is. So anyway, they're filing for bankruptcy thanks

(17:30):
to Mary mccardal and to moving into assisted living. They've
been around since nineteen fifty three. But they're Here's what
is so confusing to me. They're not going away completely.
They are transforming into a digital advertised supporting entertainment company.
So now I'm like, wait, the people that typically play
Publishers Clearinghouse are older they're my mom's of the world. Yeah,

(17:55):
my mom doesn't have a computer. Like how my friend Jana,
her mom's obsessed with it too. She has to steal
her mom's entries too.

Speaker 4 (18:01):
And then they must be going for a younger demo.
They're going for younger people on this, which is probably
smart because if the bread and butter on this was
you subscribing to magazines, there just aren't as many magazines
as there that too. Magazines are going away, so you
do have to kind of change the way you go
about things.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
They had to make some changes.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
I still don't know that I'm going to do it
because I'm still confused by how this whole thing works.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
Don't make me steal your subscriptions as well, Like I'm
so exhausted from ten years of taking my mom's entries
that I don't want to have to do this for
you as well. But yeah, I thought that was kind
of interesting because when I heard that they filed for bankruptcy,
I assumed they were going away because they were so
old school.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
But now they're.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
At bad bankruptcy.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yes, they're reinventing themselves, so now you know, Yeah, we're
at eight seven seven nine eight one oh ninety eight
one coming up in just a few minutes eight twenty
this morning, it's your chance to go to Cash Creek
Casino Resort. Little Riverband is coming.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
We've been giving away these tickets all week and we
would love to send you. So we're going to send
you to the show. Two tickets to see Little River Band.
Plus we're throwing in that overnight stay.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
It's gonna be amazing. Be here at A twenty your
chance to win on the Breeze.
